Clipper terms
The rules for clipping with Katafy and how payouts work.
These terms apply to everyone who clips for Katafy campaigns. By joining our WhatsApp group or Discord, or by submitting a clip, you agree to them. Each campaign also has a brief. Where a brief says something different, the brief wins for that campaign.
1. Who can clip
- You're 18 or older and can receive M‑Pesa payments in your own name.
- You post from accounts you own and control. You can use your main account or start a new one just for clipping. Send us every handle you clip from before you submit from it, and use the same phone number for all of them.
- Joining is free. We never ask you to pay to take part.
2. How a campaign works
- We post the campaign in the announcements channel with its brief, footage and submission form.
- You cut your own clip from the footage, following the brief, and post it on your own account with the hashtags and mentions the brief lists.
- You submit the full link through the campaign's form, with your @handle, as soon as you can after posting. There's no fixed time limit, but submitting early helps us track your views.
- To be paid in a given week, submit by Thursday 9pm (Nairobi time), with an analytics screenshot showing the clip's views.
3. How you're paid
- Rate: each brief sets a rate per 1,000 verified views (usually KES 100), a minimum number of views before a clip is paid, and a maximum payout per clip.
- Verified views are the views shown in your post's own analytics that we can check. Public view counters on profiles aren't used to calculate pay, and views we believe are bought or fake don't count.
- When: payouts go out on Fridays to the M‑Pesa number you give us. Before your first payout we confirm the account is yours.
- Budgets are limited. When a campaign's budget is used up, the campaign closes and new views stop being paid. We'll post when a budget is close to running out.
- No guaranteed earnings. What you earn depends on your clips' verified views and each campaign's rules. Nobody at Katafy can promise you a set amount.
- Bonuses (for example, for the first clip to reach a view target) are paid only as the brief describes.
- Mistakes and fraud: if we pay you by mistake, or later find a paid clip broke these terms (for example, bought views), we can deduct it from future payouts or ask for it back.
- Taxes: you're responsible for your own taxes on what you earn. If the law requires us to deduct tax, we will and we'll tell you.
4. Content rules
- Make your own edit. A straight re-upload of the source footage isn't a clip and isn't paid. B-roll is allowed to make a clip more interesting, as long as each B-roll shot is 3 seconds or less and the brand stays the focus.
- Follow the brief: what to clip, what to avoid, required hashtags, mentions and captions.
- Never buy views, likes or followers, or use bots. That's a permanent ban from all campaigns.
- Don't post the same clip from more than one account, and don't reuse a clip from another campaign.
- Don't speak for the brand, make claims about a product that aren't in the brief, or put earnings figures in your clips.
- Use the platform's branded-content or paid-partnership label where the platform's rules require it for paid promotion, and any disclosure the brief asks for.
- Don't post anything illegal, hateful, sexual, violent or that breaks the platform's rules. A clip that's taken down earns nothing.
- Keep the clip up for at least 30 days after you post it, or longer if the brief says so. Clips deleted or made private within 30 days aren’t paid, and if one was already paid we may take the amount off your next payout.
5. What gets a clip rejected
- Views we can't verify, or that look bought
- Posted from an account that isn't the one we have on file
- No real edit, or posted outside the campaign window
- Breaks the brief or these rules, or required hashtags/mentions are missing
- Deleted or made private within 30 days of posting
6. Footage, ownership and permission
- Campaign footage belongs to the client. You may use it only for clips in that campaign, and not after the campaign ends unless the brief says so.
- You keep your account and your edit, but you give Katafy and the client permission to view, share, report on and repost your campaign clips, with credit where practical.
- If a client or we ask you to take a clip down, do it within 48 hours.
7. Your relationship with Katafy
- You're an independent creator, not a Katafy employee. You choose when and whether to clip.
- You're responsible for your own accounts. We're not responsible if a platform limits, strikes or removes your account.
- Don't contact clients directly about a campaign unless the brief says to. Everything else goes through us.
- We may remove anyone from a campaign or the community for breaking these terms, being abusive to others, or fraud. Payouts already earned under these terms are still paid unless they're affected by the breach.
8. Your data
We use your name, phone, M‑Pesa details, handles and clip data to run campaigns and pay you. Our public leaderboard shows shortened handles only. See our Privacy Policy for details and your rights.
9. Changes and contact
We may update these terms. We'll post changes in the WhatsApp group and Discord and update the date above; clips submitted after that follow the new terms. These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Questions: ask in the group, or email business@katafy.co.ke.
